Borage is an annual herb, giving edible flowers, a pretty garden plant and is also renowned for its medicinal uses. Used externally, borage oil can resolve a number of skin problems. The herb has been used as a condiment from the time of the Greeks and this plant is native to many Mediterranean countries. Borage will establish easily in UK gardens and return each year as it does self seed.

The blue flowers of the plant can be used to decorate the home and they have a sweet taste that complements a number of salads and desserts. In Italy, borage is commonly used to fill ravioli and it is commonly used as a soup ingredient. Borage can be used fresh or dried and one of its most popular uses is as a garnish in Pimms cocktails.
