Children's knight gardening kit

Growing Instructions:

• Coconut soil: Before you begin your adventure as a young knight-gardener, prepare the magic soil: soak the fertilized coconut pellets in 5 to 6 times their volume of water. They will absorb the water and swell up quickly—as if by magic! Once fully expanded, loosen them with a spoon and fill the small pot. Keep a bit of this precious soil to cover the seeds after sowing.
• Sowing: Carefully open the packet of Maltese Cross seeds—noble flowers once displayed on the banners of knights. Pour a few into the palm of your hand. If they are very fine, you can mix them with a little sand to spread them more easily. Sow them by gently sprinkling them over the surface of the moistened coconut soil, without burying them too deeply. Place only 2 to 3 seeds per pot, as if forming a small royal guard. Then cover them with a thin layer of coconut soil and lightly press down with your fingertips.
• Watering: Preferably use rainwater or non-chlorinated water. Water gently with a fine spray, using a mister or watering can with a narrow spout. The goal is to keep the soil slightly moist, but never soggy—like a well-wrung sponge. Water a little each day if needed, especially in warm weather. Knights cared for their plants as they did their steeds: gently and faithfully.
• Germination: Place the pot in a bright location, but out of direct, scorching sunlight. A well-lit window or balcony from April onwards is ideal. Maltese Cross seeds will take between 7 and 14 days to germinate, sometimes a bit longer if temperatures are cool. Be patient—each sprout is like a young squire preparing his armor.
• Transplanting:When the young shoots reach 4 to 5 cm tall, select the strongest one in each pot and replant the others in new containers if desired. Be gentle during transplanting—the stems and roots are still fragile. Continue watering regularly to help the plants settle into their new space.
• Blooming: Maltese Cross flowers will begin to bloom after 8 to 10 weeks. Their magnificent red cross-shaped flowers are a living tribute to medieval times. This hardy plant loves the sun and can be kept in a pot or planted in the ground to decorate a knight’s garden.
