Lavender is an emblematic flower of the Mediterranean basin, appreciated since Antiquity for its numerous virtues. - Lavender seeds (Lavandula angustifolia or other edible varieties): Aromatic and medicinal plant renowned for its delicate fragrance and soothing virtues.
Cultivation mode:
- Seed preparation: Lavender seeds may require cold stratification to stimulate germination. Put them in a paper bag in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 weeks before planting. You can also sow directly without stratification, but germination may be slower.
- Sowing: Sow the seeds on the surface in a pot or container, without covering them with soil, because they need light to germinate. Use light, well-drained soil. A mixture of soil and sand or perlite is ideal for good aeration.
- Exposure and temperature: Place the pot or tray in a warm place, at a temperature of about 18-20°C. Lavender seeds need a lot of light to germinate, so make sure they are exposed to indirect light, Either on a sunny windowsill or under a grow light.
- Watering: Water lightly, but regularly, making sure not to soak the soil. Lavender prefers a dry soil, so it is important not to overwater, because it fears excess moisture. As soon as the seedlings are well installed, reduce watering.
- Transplantation: When the lavender plants are a few centimeters tall and have developed strong roots, you can transplant them into larger pots or directly in open ground. If you plant outdoors, choose a location in full sun, well exposed, and well drained soil. Lavender prefers poor and dry soils, so avoid rich and heavy soils.
