Planting kit contents:
- Terracotta pot 8 cm in diameter
- Terracotta bowl 8 cm in diameter
- 1 wafer of 6 cm coconut soil to rehydrate in a little warm water
- 1 bag of Mimosa pudica seeds
Cultivation mode:
- Fertilized soil: To promote successful germination, start by soaking the fertilized coconut lozenges in 5 to 6 times their volume of water; they will instantly swell. Unlayer them and fill the pot with a spoon. Do not forget to keep a small part to cover the seeds after sowing. The sensitive is chilly; below 10°C its cultivation is very random, so it is a plant to grow only in a pot. Planting all year round at 18-22°C. Soak the seeds for 24 hours in clear water. Place a seed every 3 cm on the surface and cover with 1⁄2 cm of soil. Press lightly and keep just moist, but permanently. Save the remaining seeds for later sowing.
- Watering: ideally, use rainwater or filtered water (without chlorine). Prefer a fine rain watering, ideally using a hand sprayer, to keep the soil just wet, without gorging it with water, throughout the culture. Spray the foliage if the atmosphere of the house is too dry (this can be seen by drying the tips of the leaflets). Do not let the coconut soil dry.
- Germination: the plant needs a warm and humid climate. Expose it to sunlight behind a window, without putting it over a heater, and ideally with a plastic bottle of water cut out to serve as a greenhouse. Seeds can take one to two weeks to germinate. Keep the seedlings under the plastic bottle for as long as possible to retain heat and moisture. The plant then grows normally if well watered.
- Transplanting: No need to transplant; the crop is done in direct seeding/planting. If necessary, aerate by removing a few plants if your seedling is too dense.
- Flowering: pretty pink flowers with multiple petals from June to September. When you touch its small leaves (called leaflets), a mechanism is triggered that decreases the amount of water in the cells of these leaflets. It is because these cells shrink under the effect of lack of water that leaflets collect on themselves. If you touch the plant a little longer, the reaction spreads to the stems that lose their rigidity.
