Composition :

  • 1 terracotta pot "Antique", diameter 13cm
  • 1 bag of bear garlic to sow
  • 3 coconut lozenges to rehydrate
  • 1 mode of cultivation

Cultivation mode :

  • Preparation of the substrate: Place the coconut lozenges in a container. Add warm water (about 3 to 5 times their volume in water). Let swell and mix slightly to obtain a homogeneous soil.
  • Filling the pot: Pour the rehydrated soil into the terracotta pot. Tamp lightly without too much compacting the soil.
  • Sowing the seeds of the garlic: Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil. Cover them lightly with a thin layer of earth (about 5 mm). Water gently to moisten without quenching.
  • Growing conditions: Place the pot in a shady or semi-shaded area. Ideal temperature: 10 to 20°C (avoid hot places). Keep the substrate moist but not soggy.
  • Germination: Bear garlic takes several weeks to germinate (sometimes several months). It needs a cold period to lift its dormancy. You can place the pot outside in winter or in a refrigerator for 4 to 6 weeks before putting it back at room temperature.
  • Maintenance and growth: Water regularly to keep soil slightly moist. Avoid excess water to prevent seed rot. Once the young shoots have developed, you can fertilize slightly with an organic fertilizer (optional).

The bear garlic is a perennial plant, it will come back every year so well maintained!
