Growing Method: DIY Terrarium with Asparagus seeds to sow
Fertilized soil: To promote successful germination, begin by soaking the fertilized coconut soil pellets in 5 to 6 times their volume of water: they will swell instantly. Loosen them up and fill the glass jar using a spoon. Remember to keep a small portion aside to cover the seeds after sowing.
Sowing Asparagus seeds indoors: Open the sachet and pour the seeds into your hand. If they are too small, add some sand to make sowing easier. To sow, sprinkle the seeds over the moist, non-compacted coconut soil, with a maximum of 3 to 5 seeds in the jar. Keep the rest of the sachet for future sowings or to sow directly in your garden or on your balcony when the weather is warm. Gently cover the seeds with fertilized coconut soil and press down lightly.
Watering: Ideally, use rainwater or filtered water (chlorine-free). Prefer a fine mist, ideally using a hand sprayer, to keep the soil just moist, without waterlogging it, throughout the growing process. Water the soil and not the leaves, as this can bring diseases. Imagine the soil like a wet sponge that has been wrung out. Do not let the coconut soil dry out.
Seed germination: The edges of the jar will act as a greenhouse to concentrate heat and maintain humidity, thus promoting faster and more abundant germination. Germination takes a few days for Asparagus.
Transplanting: No transplanting is required; the cultivation takes place directly in the jar. If you have too many plants, separate them and keep the most robust one in the jar.
Flowering: The plant will not produce flowers but beautiful, very serrated leaves after a few weeks. You can slow down the growth by not exposing the jar to direct sunlight.
Our advice: Trim the leaves if necessary so they do not grow too far out of the jar.
