Composition :

  • 1 terracotta pot "Antique", diameter 13 cm
  • 1 bag of seeds of Bio chiboulette to sow
  • 3 coconut lozenges to rehydrate
  • 1 mode of cultivation

Cultivation mode :

  • Coconut lands: To promote successful germination, start by soaking the fertilized coconut lozenges in 5 to 6 times their volume of water: they will immediately swell. Do not forget to keep a small portion to cover the seeds after sowing.
  • Sowing: Open the bag and pour the seeds into your hand. If they are too small, add sand to facilitate sowing. For sowing, sprinkle seeds on the wet soil of non-compact coconut, 2 to 3 seeds maximum per pot. Save the remaining seeds for a later sowing or to sow them directly in your garden or on your balcony when the weather is sunny. Gently cover the seeds with fertilized coconut soil and tamp lightly.
  • Watering: Use preferably rainwater or filtered water (without chlorine). Water in fine rain, preferably with a spray, to keep the soil just wet, without soaking it with water, throughout the crop. Imagine the soil as a damp sponge, then wrung out. Do not let the coconut soil dry.
  • Germination: Expose them to light behind a glass, without placing them on a radiator, to promote rapid and abundant germination. From April, expose your balcony, window sill or terrace to the sun. Chives seeds take a week to germinate and grow quickly if they do not lack water.
  • Transplanting: When the seedlings emerge and reach 5 to 10 cm in height, choose only one plant per pot and replant the others in new pots or planters. You can replant them directly in your garden if the temperature allows, with a spacing of 20 cm. Water to promote recovery.
  • Harvest: The chives do not pull completely and are cut. To ensure consistent regrowth, cut the stems at two-thirds of their height when harvesting or caring for plants. Allow about 2 months between planting and first harvest.
  • Read more: The origin of chives is lost, probably Chinese. It was already widely cultivated in the Middle Ages in Europe and its current cultivation area covers almost the entire planet. Its small cylindrical leaves, with a strong pungent aroma, must be eaten fresh, finely chopped, to season a wide variety of dishes. It is also used to prepare delicious soups and to flavor a simple omelette, especially in Provence and Spain.
