How to grow :
Planting kit “Tu me cours sur le haricot” - Beans for sowing
- Potting soil: To encourage successful germination, start by soaking the fertilized coco pellets in 5 to 6 times their volume of water: they will swell instantly. Unpack them and fill the pot with a spoon. Remember to keep a small amount to cover the seeds after sowing.
- Sowing: Open the bag and pour the seeds into your hand. If the seeds are too small, add sand to make sowing easier. To sow, spread the seeds over the moist, loose coco potting soil, no more than 2-3 seeds per pot. Save the remaining seeds for later sowing, or to sow directly in your garden or balcony when the weather's fine. Gently cover the seeds with the fertilized coco potting soil and pack lightly.
- Watering: Preferably use rainwater or filtered (chlorine-free) water. Prefer light rainfall watering, ideally with a sprayer, to keep the potting soil moist, without excess water, throughout the growing period. Water the soil, not the leaves, as this could lead to disease in young plants. Think of potting soil as a damp sponge that needs to be kept drained. Don't let the potting soil dry out completely.
- Germination: Expose them to sunlight behind glass, without placing them directly on a radiator, to encourage rapid and abundant germination. Beans take a few days to germinate, and develop rapidly.
- Transplanting: When the young shoots appear and reach 3 to 5 cm in height, keep just one plant per pot and transplant the others into new pots or planters. Water to encourage growth.
- Harvesting: Transplant in the open ground, gently pulling the soil back around the plant. Keep the soil slightly moist with regular watering. Blooms from May to September and harvests between 2? and 4 months after sowing.
More info: The Kilometre bean, probably native to South America, is a climbing bean that can reach heights of over 4 meters, remarkable for its large 60-80 cm pods. A true invitation to the land of vegetable giants. It contains around ten seeds of varying color. Dried beans can be eaten like other varieties, but their quality is inferior. Kilometer beans are best eaten fresh, with the tender young pods measuring between 20 and 30 cm. Their flavor is slightly reminiscent of asparagus.
